Online Startup Management School by Mårten Mickos

Mårten Mickos, the CEO of growth companies, shares his knowledge.

MySQL and Eucalyptus Systems are the cornerstones of Mickos’ career. He led both companies and both were bought by major industry players. Sun Microsystems bought MySQL with a billion $ in 2008. In 2014 Eucalyptus Systems were bought by Hewlett-Packard.

Now Mårten wants to share what he has learned during the years of managing growth companies. For that purpose Mickos founded a site called School of Herring.

But why such a peculiar name? Mickos explains for Helsingin Sanomat that in the States persons are seen being “big fish” and “small fish”. According to Mickos all fish are equal size and importance. In his website he explains further:

A modern organization is like a school of fish. It’s not about big versus small fish. It is about fish with unique skills and different roles, unified in purpose and coordinated in action.

What is School of Herring? According to http://schoolofherring.com :

The School of Herring brings you leadership insights in short videos and blog texts. It strives to inspire the skills required in the era of global organizations.

Now you are thinking: “Ok. Sounds interesting but I have so much to do”. Well, start with a short video and decide then if Mårten can lead you further on your path. I have selected a short video blog [3:35] for you. It is called How to stay in focus.
